The year is 1904, and social turbulence and civil unrest abound in Pittsburgh’s Hill District. A young man named Citizen Barlow arrives on the doorstep of 1839 Wylie Avenue seeking solace and a path to cleanse his soul. He puts faith in Aunt Ester, the 285-year old spiritual advisor to the community and keeper of the African-American collective memory. She takes him on a magical journey of redemption to the City of Bones, where true spiritual freedom awaits.
